"If you are working in Canada, you will soon become a Canadian citizen!"
—— Tweet from Marco Mendicino, Canadian Minister of Immigration in 2021
Recently, according to Reuters, Marco Mendicino, the Canadian Minister of Immigration, revealed in a phone interview: Canada welcomed 39,500 new immigrants in July, breaking the previous record of 35,700 new immigrants in June! The Minister believes that the record increase in new immigrants in June and July indicates that Canada is very likely to achieve its target of 401,000 new immigrants this year.
The data for new immigrants in Canada from January to July 2021 is as follows: 24,680 new immigrants in January; 23,395 new immigrants in February; 22,400 new immigrants in March; 21,105 new immigrants in April; 17,100 new immigrants in May; 35,700 new immigrants in June; and 39,500 new immigrants in July! In the first seven months of 2021, Canada welcomed a total of 184,000 new immigrants, a number comparable to the total new immigrants for the entire year of 2020.
Canada has a significant gap in new immigrants, and multiple "amnesties" aim to accelerate the million-immigrant plan
Data shows that in the first half of 2021, from January to June, Canada added an average of 24,119 permanent residents per month, while in the second half, an average of 42,714 new immigrants per month will be needed to meet the annual target of 401,000 new immigrants. Economists from the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), who successfully predicted immigration trends in 2020, stated that due to the dual impact of the pandemic and travel restrictions, the significant immigration gap will reoccur in 2021, with an estimated gap of around 100,000.
In order to "attract" immigrants and retain them, Canada is truly making an effort in 2021! Throughout this year, we have seen Canada pulling out all the stops! From early 2021 to now, the Canadian immigration department has implemented various measures to fill the immigration quota, from the previously low EE scores to aggressively recruiting international students and special talents, as well as several shocking "amnesties," fully demonstrating its determination to achieve the new immigration target!
Additionally, to improve processing speed, the Canadian immigration department has even introduced new policies that exempt those who meet certain requirements from medical examinations; in early July, Canada also began allowing holders of Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) documents issued after March 20, 2020, to enter the country, opening another green light for thousands of new immigrants; recently, to better support new immigrants in settling during the pandemic, the Canadian federal government will allocate CAD 100 million to provide settlement services for new immigrants; starting September 7, Canada will allow travelers from all other countries who have been vaccinated with vaccines recognized by Canada to enter Canada without quarantine. All signs indicate that Canada is accelerating the promotion of the million-immigrant plan, which is indeed good news!
In 2021, Canada has a surging demand for immigrants to fill job vacancies, requiring more new immigrants
The Bank of Canada, in its latest report "Will Pre-Pandemic Levels of Retirement and Resignation Exacerbate Canada’s Emerging Labor Shortage?" pointed out that as the economy rebounds, many people are reconsidering their options and choosing to retire or resign. In June 2021, the number of workers resigning was nearly three times that of the same period last year. In the second half of this year, it is expected that 125,000 workers will retire in Canada. Coupled with an increasing number of job vacancies—approximately 550,000 in the first quarter of this year—this presents opportunities for foreigners wishing to immigrate to Canada. In the long run, Canada will benefit from a more proactive immigration approach: addressing labor shortages and targeting the best talents in the world.
Data shows that in the first half of 2021, various industries in Canada still faced severe labor shortages. To address the demand for essential labor market needs, Canada issued new amnesty invitations for 95 types of essential industry positions and 40 healthcare positions in May, further demonstrating Canada’s ability to adjust immigration policies to attract new immigrants to help promote economic recovery. Analysts believe that Canada’s demand for immigrants to fill job vacancies is expected to surge this year, and the Canadian government is likely to further relax immigration thresholds in the second half of the year, inviting more new immigrants to settle in Canada through various methods and means. It can be said that, as Marco Mendicino stated, 2021 is indeed a year to quickly obtain a Canadian Maple Leaf Card!
