Recently, the Canadian Minister of Finance announced that the Canada Workers Benefit will see an additional 1 million Canadians benefit, helping nearly 100,000 people escape poverty, while also expanding the eligibility for the benefit. It is estimated that 3.2 million Canadians will qualify for this benefit.
The Canada Workers Benefit is a refundable tax credit designed to assist individuals and families who are employed but have low incomes. This expansion of the Canada Workers Benefit means an additional 8.9 billion Canadian dollars in support from the federal government over six years. This is a significant tax refund for working families.
This benefit has been greatly expanded, with an additional 1 million low-income workers eligible for refunds of up to the following amounts: single workers without children (a group that does not receive many benefits) can receive up to 1,400 Canadian dollars; workers with families can receive up to 2,400 Canadian dollars. In total, approximately 3.2 million Canadians can receive support from this benefit.
At the same time, the Canadian government is expanding the eligibility criteria for the benefit, including individuals with incomes at or below the following levels: single Canadians with an annual income below 32,244 Canadian dollars without children; single-income families with an annual income below 42,197 Canadian dollars; dual-income families with an annual income below 56,197 Canadian dollars. Additionally, this expansion includes a new provision allowing the second income earner in a couple (mostly women) to deduct up to 14,000 Canadian dollars from their income when calculating eligibility for the benefit, thereby allowing more families to receive tax refunds.
The Canadian Minister of Finance stated: "The pandemic has highlighted the severe inequalities faced by low-wage workers in Canada, who work harder than anyone else in this country but earn less. By strengthening the Workers Benefit, we will help nearly 100,000 people escape poverty, support the livelihoods of 1 million hardworking Canadians, and build a fairer and more inclusive economic recovery."
In fact, since the outbreak of the pandemic, the Canadian government's financial assistance has been unprecedented! Canada not only has a comprehensive social welfare system but also implements timely and thorough welfare measures in response to emergencies. Such a caring and warm country will attract more people. Known as a "paradise for immigrants," Canada has a well-established social welfare system, including public healthcare, pensions, unemployment benefits, and social assistance, ensuring that the elderly are cared for and the sick receive medical attention. Many investors choose Canada precisely because of these rich benefits. If you are also considering immigration, why not take action now? You and your family are just one Maple Leaf card away from Canada's generous benefits!
