Recently, Canadian media outlet CTV News received confirmation from the Immigration Department that permanent residents who were unable to enter Canada due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, and overseas applicants whose applications have already been approved, will be permitted to enter Canada to complete their final landing procedures and successfully become permanent residents, even if their Confirmation of Permanent Residence (PR landing paper) has expired.

According to previous regulations, once a Confirmation of Permanent Residence document expired, it was automatically voided, and applicants who did not land in Canada within the validity period were automatically considered to have abandoned their permanent resident status. The new policy waives this requirement! Applicants holding a PR landing paper only need to monitor emails from the immigration authorities, reply promptly to indicate their continued intention to obtain Canadian permanent resident status, and wait patiently for the borders to reopen.
This policy change is major good news for new immigrants who have been unable to enter Canada to complete their landing procedures due to travel bans! The federal government also stated that once restrictions are lifted, permanent residents stranded overseas will be able to return to Canada.
As everyone knows, Canada has always been a country that opens its doors to welcome immigrants. Even during the pandemic, Canada has continued to welcome new immigrants and has consistently introduced various favorable immigration policies. Meanwhile, the latest data from the immigration authorities shows that Canada welcomed approximately 24,665 new permanent residents in January 2021. Compared to the 24,715 new immigrants accepted during the same period in 2020, the number of immigrants accepted in the first month of 2021 has returned to normal levels! This once again proves that Canadian immigration is popular among investors. For those with immigration intentions, if you encounter an immigration program that suits you, you must seize the opportunity; with the current relatively low immigration threshold, this is the best time to apply for a Maple Leaf Card!
