Recently, the Canadian federal government announced that it will once again extend the duration of several pandemic benefit programs, including the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB), the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB), and Employment Insurance (EI)!
Canadian Minister of Employment Carla Qualtrough stated that extending these benefits will cost the government approximately $12.1 billion CAD, with $6.7 billion allocated to extending recovery benefits and $5.4 billion to extending Employment Insurance. Prime Minister Trudeau also stated at a press conference: "This crisis is not over, and our support for everyone will not stop."

Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB)
This benefit is primarily aimed at self-employed individuals affected by the pandemic or those who do not qualify for Employment Insurance (EI). It has been extended from the original 26 weeks to 38 weeks, until September 25, 2021. The benefit provides $1,000 CAD every two weeks, equivalent to $2,000 CAD per month.
Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB)
This benefit is for individuals who are unable to work because they must care for a family member (or a child under 12) who has contracted the virus. The benefit is extended by another 12 weeks, also until September 25, 2021, for a maximum of 38 weeks of benefits at $500 CAD per week.
Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB)
This benefit is for individuals who are unable to work because they are sick or need to self-isolate due to the pandemic. This benefit has been extended from the original 2 weeks to 4 weeks.
Employment Insurance (EI)
Employment Insurance has been extended from the original 26 weeks to a total of 50 weeks, an increase of 24 weeks.
The extension of pandemic benefits has warmed the hearts of many Canadians, and for the future, the Canadian federal government has provided further reassurance. According to City News, the Canadian federal government has released its latest COVID-19 vaccination plan, which includes significant changes: the vaccination process has been accelerated overall, and the goal of universal immunity is expected to be reached ahead of schedule. This means that starting in the second half of this year, Canada's universal immunity plan will begin to show results, marking another milestone on the road to pandemic prevention and control.
It is not difficult to see that Canada not only has comprehensive regular social welfare but also provides timely and thorough welfare measures in response to emergencies. During the pandemic, those who lost their jobs, those who were sick, those who were self-isolating, those caring for the sick, and parents who had to stay home to care for children due to school closures all received strong support from the Canadian government. Canada truly deserves its reputation as one of the world's high-welfare nations!
