Recently, the Public Health Agency of Canada announced that it expects to receive over 400,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine each week, with 156,780 doses allocated to Ontario. As more vaccines arrive in Canada, Ontario will further accelerate its vaccination process. At the same time, Ontario has also announced the latest updates to the vaccination order and schedule!
Phase One (From December 2020 to March 2021)
Ontario's vaccination efforts are currently still in Phase One, which includes populations such as: staff and essential caregivers in long-term care homes, high-risk retirement homes, and Indigenous elder care facilities, as well as the highest priority healthcare workers.
As vaccine supply increases, it is expected that the vaccination population in Phase One will further expand to include: adults aged 80 and older; staff, residents, and caregivers in retirement homes and other congregate care settings; highly prioritized healthcare workers; all Indigenous adults; and family caregivers of adults with chronic diseases.
Phase Two (From April to July 2021)
Starting in April, the province will begin large-scale vaccination. It is expected that 8.5 million of Ontario's 14 million residents will be vaccinated. The populations covered include: older adults starting from age 79, decreasing in five-year increments during the vaccine rollout; individuals living and working in high-risk populations; frontline workers (such as emergency services, teachers, food industry workers); individuals with high-risk chronic diseases and their caregivers; and other higher-risk groups.
Phase Three (From August 2021 and beyond)
After August, depending on vaccine supply. In this phase, any remaining residents of Ontario who have not yet been vaccinated will receive the vaccine.
Additionally, Rick Hillier, head of Ontario's vaccine task force, stated at a press conference that Ontario's online vaccine booking system and call center will be activated on March 15. At that time, residents aged 80 and older can make appointments, and those who are not accustomed to using the internet can call to schedule vaccinations at nearby clinics based on their postal codes. It is reported that Ontario will begin vaccinating individuals aged 80 and older in the third week of March.
Meanwhile, Toronto will have nine vaccination clinics already opened in the city, expected to operate seven days a week for nine hours a day starting April 1, with a capacity to administer 120,000 doses of vaccine weekly. Two large vaccination centers in Peel Region, Ontario, are now ready to open, with an expected capacity of 1,100 vaccinations per hour.
It is believed that as vaccine deliveries and vaccination efforts progress steadily, Canada will gradually achieve herd immunity, and life and the economy will accelerate back to normal. In fact, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian government has implemented numerous special measures to combat the pandemic, doing everything possible to support its national economy and ensure the safety of its citizens. In terms of vaccines, Canada has made significant investments. This is a loving and warm country that has attracted many individuals to immigrate here in recent years.
