Recently, the official website of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the United States published a notice regarding the comprehensive implementation of nucleic acid testing measures for passengers traveling to China from the United States, effective from 12:00 AM Eastern Time on September 15.
Chinese citizens planning to return to the country should note:
1. Passengers traveling directly from the United States to China must complete a nucleic acid test for COVID-19 within 3 days prior to boarding and present a negative test certificate to obtain a green health code with the "HS" mark for boarding. For example, if your flight to China departs on October 10, you should provide a negative test certificate issued between October 7 and October 10.
2. Passengers departing from the United States on commercial flights via a third country or region must present a negative nucleic acid test certificate to obtain a green health code with the "HS" mark for boarding. Please note: starting from 12:00 AM Eastern Time on September 15, passengers transiting through a third country or region to China must provide a valid negative nucleic acid test certificate issued within 3 days prior to boarding the last segment of their flight to China. For example, if your last segment flight to China departs on October 10, you should provide a negative test certificate issued between October 7 and October 10.
3. Passengers departing from a third country and transiting through the United States to China must present a green health code with the "HS" mark, verified by the Chinese consulate in that third country, that is still valid for boarding. If you transit through the United States without meeting the boarding requirements, you will face a high risk of being stranded or even being returned to your point of departure.
4. Starting from 12:00 AM Eastern Time on September 15, the practice of Chinese passengers boarding with a 14-day health code (with an airplane mark) will no longer apply to passengers traveling directly from the United States to China or those departing from the United States via a third country or region to China.
Application process for the green health code with "HS" mark for Chinese citizens:
Chinese citizens should declare their personal information and upload their negative nucleic acid test certificate through the international version of the health code WeChat mini-program within 12 hours after obtaining the negative test certificate, according to the jurisdiction of the testing institution (see the division of jurisdiction of the Chinese embassies and consulates in the United States and the management notice).
Generally, the Chinese embassies and consulates in the United States can complete the verification of the nucleic acid test certificate within 24 hours of uploading. If some test certificates need to be verified with the testing institution, the verification time will be extended accordingly. After passing the verification by the Chinese embassies and consulates in the United States, the individual will receive a green health code with the "HS" mark. The validity period of the health code is automatically generated by the system and is uniformly displayed in Beijing time. Please ensure to travel within the validity period of the health code, cooperate with the airline for verification before boarding, and carry the original paper copy of the negative nucleic acid test certificate with you.
If you have plans to return to China soon, please be sure to confirm the relevant policies with the Chinese embassies and consulates in the United States and the airlines before making travel arrangements to avoid unnecessary losses and troubles. WorldWay Immigration Group will continue to monitor the latest situation and share updates with everyone in a timely manner.
