Recently, the "2020 World Competitiveness Yearbook" published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland was released. Cyprus rose from 41st place in 2019 to 30th in 2020, making it the fastest-rising country among the 63 nations evaluated!
It is reported that the World Competitiveness Yearbook has been published for 32 years since 1989. Due to its long-standing reputation, high status, and scientific rigor, it has been recognized as one of the most authoritative competitiveness rankings for nations worldwide. The report evaluates and ranks the competitiveness of 63 global economies based on four criteria: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure.
Notably, Cyprus saw the largest improvement in the competitiveness ranking, which signifies improvements across all four assessment criteria, with business efficiency, government efficiency, and economic performance being the most significant. The report points out that Cyprus's significant progress is mainly due to the continued improvement of its overall economic situation, particularly in the areas of employment and investment attraction. At the same time, Cyprus has also shown good improvement in public finance, the institutional environment, the business environment, and the welfare state.
The IMD World Competitiveness Center also conducted an opinion survey, which indicated that the three most important factors that make the Cyprus economy attractive are: a business-friendly environment, a competitive tax system, and a highly educated workforce.
As everyone knows, the Cyprus passport is known in the immigration industry as the "Hermès of passports." It is a combination of a Commonwealth and European Union passport, and holders can even realize indirect immigration to the UK upon meeting certain conditions; its value is self-evident. As an EU member state, holding a Cyprus passport not only allows visa-free travel to more than 160 countries and regions but also provides "1=31" benefits! This means that with a Cyprus passport, one can freely move, work, reside, and study across any of the 27 EU member states (including Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Finland, etc.), 3 European Economic Area member states (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein), and Switzerland—a total of 31 European countries—while also enjoying the generous welfare benefits of EU citizens.
In fact, the Cyprus EU passport has always been highly favored by investors; in the first quarter of this year, the number of Cyprus passport applications increased by 250% compared to the same period last year! Furthermore, following Malta's recent announcement that it will terminate its Citizenship by Investment program, Cyprus will become one of the countries within the EU where one can quickly obtain citizenship.
As Cyprus develops rapidly, it will be favored by more investors, and 2020 remains an excellent time to invest in Cyprus. Currently, investors who purchase at least 2 million Euros worth of property in Cyprus (whether a single unit or multiple units) and make a donation of 150,000 Euros can apply for a Cyprus EU passport for their entire family of three generations.
As a Top 500 Asian Brand, WorldWay Group has maintained a positive relationship with the Cyprus government for many years. In 2011, we were among the first to introduce the Cyprus Permanent Residency and Citizenship by Investment programs to China, beginning a wonderful journey of European investment immigration. In 2014, the "Paphos Night" events held in Beijing and Shanghai were the first investment and cultural exchange events in China themed around a European city.
