Greece Investment Immigration May Increase in Price
The new immigration law No. 4686/2020 was published in the government gazette on May 12, 2020, which includes changes and improvements to immigration policies. The new law stipulates the following changes to the Greek Golden Visa program:
1. The Greek Golden Residence Permit for dependent children can be renewed until the age of 24, extending the previous limit of 21 by three years.
2. The Greek government will adjust the investment amount threshold for the Golden Residence Visa. Different investment thresholds will be set based on the property purchase locations, encouraging investors to invest in other cities in Greece.
3. In the event of changes to the law, the cutoff point will be the time when the investor successfully purchases the property, not the time of submitting the immigration application to the immigration bureau. This means that as long as the investor successfully purchases the property before the new law is implemented, they can submit their immigration application according to the current law.
4. When submitting the immigration application to the immigration bureau, the investor must pay the full purchase price to the developer's bank account and submit a notarized contract; or pay the purchase price according to the time specified in the notarized contract.
5. When submitting the immigration application, the investor should also submit proof documents issued by the notary to facilitate the immigration bureau's efficient review of the investor's immigration application documents, thereby speeding up the immigration approval process.
In addition, according to the amendment of Article 10 of Law No. 4251/2014:
With a power of attorney (POA), a lawyer can collect the applicant's Greek Golden Residence Permit card on behalf of the applicant by providing a copy of the applicant's passport, without needing to submit the original passport.
Key point: The second clause of the bill is particularly noteworthy, as it may signify the end of the unified threshold of 250,000 euros for the Greek Golden Visa.
Extension of the Greek Golden Residence Permit Validity
According to the joint ministerial decision, the Greek Ministry of Immigration and Asylum has once again extended the validity period for expired residence permits: Blue papers and Greek permanent residence cards expiring between March 12, 2020, and June 30, 2020, can be automatically extended to December 31, 2020, without the need for other documents.
At the same time, for investors who have made appointments to fingerprint and submit immigration applications between March 12, 2020, and April 10, 2020, they are generally required to submit applications before May 15, 2020, but this deadline can now be extended to September 30, 2020.
The Deputy Minister of Finance of Greece, Theodoros Skylakakis, stated: "We are very eager to restart the real estate market and are working towards this goal. Especially, the restart of the Golden Visa program is imminent."
