In response, the Turkish government dispatched a special medical plane to Sweden for the citizen.
Rescue statement issued by Leyla, daughter of the rescued Turkish citizen Emrullah Gülüşken:
“Hi, my name is Leyla, and I live in Sweden with my family. About thirteen or fourteen days ago, my father started getting sick, and it kept getting worse. After calling the hospital, they didn't take any action, saying they couldn't do anything because my father's symptoms were mild.
Five days ago, because my father's symptoms were getting more severe, I had to call the hospital again. The hospital sent a doctor to our home, and after examining my father, they called an ambulance and agreed to let my father be hospitalized. During this time, he was also tested for the novel coronavirus, and the result was positive. Despite this, they sent my father home; an hour later, they sent him home without doing anything. We have two young children and two teenagers at home, and my younger siblings suffer from asthma, while my father has heart disease.
Just yesterday, my father's condition worsened, so I called an ambulance. After the ambulance arrived, they asked us why we needed an ambulance. I told them my father's condition had worsened, but they did nothing. They just said these are the symptoms of the coronavirus. All we wanted was for people to hear our voice. We need help because my father's life and our lives are in danger.”
Turkish Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca responded quickly to Leyla's plea for help and tweeted:
“Dear Leyla, we have heard your plea. The ambulance plane is scheduled to depart for Sweden at 6 AM. In these difficult times, even though you are so far away, all of Turkey is concerned for you. The hospitals and doctors here are waiting for your father. Our President and the entire nation hope for your father's recovery. Please accept our best wishes.”
Leyla, daughter of Turkish citizen Emrullah Gülüşken, tweeted to express her gratitude:
“Dear Minister, may God bless you abundantly. I don't even know what to say; I am so happy for my father and my family. Without you, we truly wouldn't have known what to do. I thank you for all the help you have provided us during such a difficult time.”
