On March 27, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on immigration applications, the response deadline for all Requests for Evidence (RFE) and Notices of Intent to Deny (NOID) received between March 1 and May 1 may be extended by 60 days.
This measure by USCIS provides significant convenience to investors who have received an RFE or NOID during the pandemic. Investors will be granted a longer grace period, allowing them to respond based on the pandemic situation in their place of residence and their personal circumstances, ensuring that responses are accurate and avoiding potential denials.
Meanwhile, USCIS has updated the reopening schedule for its local offices, announcing that the suspension of in-person services has been extended until May 3. During this period, all public-facing services, including interviews, naturalization ceremonies, fingerprinting, and stamping, are suspended. It is worth noting that USCIS has only suspended in-person services for the public; the receipt and processing of immigration applications remain unaffected and continue as usual.
Previously, in response to the spread of COVID-19, USCIS announced the temporary closure of all offices until April 1, later extending the closure to April 7. This time, the suspension of in-person services has been further extended to May 3, with a current plan to reopen on May 4. If the pandemic situation does not improve, this date may be further postponed.
