Recently, the Greek Minister of Finance, the Minister of Development and Investments, and the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs jointly announced a new round of tax cuts and economic assistance plans to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on the lives of citizens and the national economy. To date, the Greek government has allocated 6.8 billion euros (accounting for 3.5% of GDP). The specific relief measures are as follows:
I. Tax Relief and Assistance
• Providing a total of 800 million euros in relief payments to 1.7 million workers nationwide, while extending the deadline for debt repayment by 4 months;
• Guaranteeing the Easter bonus again, which will be paid in full to all private sector employees; if employees are temporarily suspended, the state will pay their bonus;
• Suspending VAT and tax arrears payments for 800,000 businesses;
• Adding an additional 5 billion euros to the budget to address the impact of the coronavirus pandemic;
• Expanding financial assistance for freelancers;
• Helping businesses pay their loans for April and June.
II. Special Subsidies
• The Greek government plans to issue an emergency allowance of 800 euros by April 10 to workers in companies whose employment contracts have been suspended due to coronavirus lockdown measures.
• Starting April 1, eligible individuals can visit the dedicated platform supportemployees.yeka.gr to apply for the 40% rent discount and the 800-euro special allowance provided by the government. Starting April 6, the Ergani database will accept relief applications from freelancers, sole proprietors, self-employed individuals, and employees of micro-enterprises.
• Greek authorities stated that "scientific" professionals such as economic consultants, accountants, engineers, lawyers, doctors, interns, and researchers will not be eligible for the 800-euro allowance. However, they will receive a "training voucher" worth 600 euros funded by the European Union.
III. Government United in Fighting the Pandemic
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called on cabinet members and members of his New Democracy party to deposit half of their salaries into a special account to donate these funds over the next two months to work related to fighting the coronavirus. Mitsotakis said he believes other political parties will follow suit. The new President of Greece, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, announced that she will donate half of her salary to this national special fund to combat the coronavirus pandemic in Greece.
Facing this pandemic, many countries around the world have introduced different economic assistance measures. It is foreseeable that when the global economy recovers from its pause, it may be the time for a wave of investment. In recent years, the Greek economy has been continuously recovering, attracting more and more international investors to enter Greece! Currently, the "Golden Visa" policy implemented by Greece remains a good choice. 2020 is the Year of Health Planning; health planning and status come first! Currently, through the Greek real estate immigration program, by investing in properties starting from 250,000 euros, you can not only apply for a Greek permanent residence visa for three generations of your family, travel freely through 26 Schengen countries, but also enjoy Greek social welfare benefits such as education and medical care, and also acquire properties with permanent property rights in Greece, establishing a second home overseas, which can be described as killing multiple birds with one stone.
