Recently, the Canadian federal government announced a major increase in economic aid for all Canadians during the pandemic, raising the total amount from $82 billion CAD to $107 billion CAD. Qualified applicants will receive a $2,000 CAD check from the government every month for four consecutive months, totaling $8,000 CAD. Furthermore, the government will open an online application channel, and the Prime Minister promised that the aid money will be received within 10 days of submitting an application.
How to apply?
The official website for applying for the CERB online will open in early April, at which time the URL will be announced. You can log in to apply and receive the funds within 10 days. Applicants can also apply through a free telephone hotline, the number for which will also be announced in early April.
Who is eligible to apply?
Workers who have had to stop working due to the COVID-19 pandemic and cannot receive paid leave or other income subsidies.
Workers who are sick, quarantined, or caring for COVID-19 patients.
Parents who must stay at home to care for children because their child is sick, or because schools and daycare centers are closed, and thus cannot work and have lost income.
Workers who are still employed but have been told by their employer that they do not need to come to work and therefore do not receive a salary because there is not enough work to do during the pandemic.
Workers who are unable to receive EI, including contract workers and self-employed individuals.
In short, people who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic, those who are sick, those who are self-isolating, those who are caring for COVID-19 patients, and parents who have to stay at home to care for children because schools are closed can all receive this benefit!
CERB is issued every 4 weeks, and the period for which it can be claimed is from March 15, 2020, to October 3, 2020. As long as the applicant is over 15 years of age, works in Canada, and has earned more than $5,000 CAD in the past 12 months but has now lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they are eligible to receive these $8,000 CAD. Even for freelancers, even if they do not meet EI standards, they can enjoy this benefit!
In addition, Trudeau announced that the government will combine the two previously proposed pandemic EI benefits, the "emergency care benefit" and "emergency support benefits," into one, simplifying and directly providing help to Canadians in a more direct way. Trudeau also emphasized that the Canadian government has prepared more direct support methods for businesses, such as providing credit to businesses quickly during the pandemic; increasing tax credits for large, medium, and small enterprises; and allowing businesses to delay the payment of income tax, etc.
In addition, besides the federal government, various provincial governments in Canada also have additional assistance plans. For example, BC recently announced that residents who have to stay at home and cannot work due to the pandemic will be able to receive a one-time tax-free subsidy of $1,000, which will be issued in May. Quebec has launched a temporary subsidy plan specifically for those self-isolating due to COVID-19, with each person able to receive $573 CAD per week.
According to incomplete statistics, nearly 500,000 people across Canada have recently applied for unemployment insurance. The pandemic is merciless, but people are compassionate. I believe that with the efforts of the whole nation, Canada will be able to defeat this virus and let every Canadian return to normal life! Such a loving and warm country has attracted many people to immigrate here in recent years.
Worldway Group, one of Asia's top 500 brands, has launched the Quebec Immigrant Investor Program for low-threshold Permanent Resident cards, as well as Canadian investment immigration projects that allow for fast landing, such as the Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Program, Prince Edward Island Entrepreneur Program, Manitoba Entrepreneur Program, New Brunswick Entrepreneur Program, etc., helping investors realize their dreams in the "Maple Leaf Country."
