More good news for Cyprus investment immigration: The Cyprus passport is set to gain visa-free access to the U.S., further increasing its value! Recently, Cypriot Foreign Minister Nicos Christodoulides stated that progress regarding visa waivers for Cyprus passport holders traveling to the U.S. may be made soon.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Carl Risch visited Nicosia, Cyprus, and Athens, Greece, between January 12 and 16 to discuss easing entry requirements for travel to the United States.
In a statement, the U.S. Department of State said: "The Assistant Secretary will represent the United States' firm and long-standing commitment to protecting U.S. citizens abroad and facilitating legitimate travel for foreign nationals to the United States." During the visit, U.S. Assistant Secretary Risch held joint meetings with the Cypriot Minister of Interior and the Minister of Justice to discuss how to achieve this visa-free goal, with the objective of making progress toward visa-free travel in 2020.
Currently, under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), citizens of only 39 countries are eligible for visa-free entry into the United States. Most EU member states are covered by the Visa Waiver Program, with the exception of Cyprus, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania.
The Cyprus passport has always been highly favored by high-net-worth individuals and is a top choice for the wealthy, which is inseparable from its advantage of visa-free access to over 160 countries and regions. Furthermore, holding a Cyprus passport allows for free movement, work, residence, and study across any of the 27 EU member states (including Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Finland, etc.), the 3 member states of the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein), and Switzerland—a total of 31 European countries. It also allows holders to enjoy the generous benefits afforded to EU citizens! The Cyprus passport is more than just an EU passport; its holders can also achieve a pathway to reside in the UK under certain conditions, which is why the Cyprus passport is often referred to as the "Hermès of passports."
With the Cyprus passport soon to be visa-free for the U.S., more people are expected to apply for it in the future. Currently, through the Cyprus Investment Programme, investors can purchase at least 2 million euros worth of Cypriot real estate (whether one or multiple properties) and donate 150,000 euros to apply for a Cyprus passport for their entire family of three generations. At the same time, investors can also apply for immigration to Cyprus by purchasing, establishing, or participating in the investment of a Cypriot company. For example, the Limassol Golf Integrated Resort project introduced by Worldway is an equity investment immigration project suitable for those who wish to apply by purchasing, establishing, or participating in the investment of a Cypriot company. By investing 2 million euros to subscribe to the project's equity, while also purchasing at least 500,000 euros in Cypriot real estate and donating 150,000 euros, the entire family of three generations can apply for a Cyprus passport.
As the Cyprus passport becomes increasingly popular and the number of applicants grows, the Cypriot government has repeatedly raised the application threshold since last year, not only limiting the number of applications but also increasing the donation costs. No one can predict whether policies will tighten further in the future. Therefore, investors interested in obtaining a Cyprus passport should act quickly; the earlier you apply, the sooner you benefit.
