The Greek Ministry of Finance recently submitted the 2020 national fiscal budget to the Greek Parliament. Based on factors such as increased investment, improved domestic demand, and tax reduction incentives, it is forecasted that the Greek economy will grow by 2.8% next year, and Greece will recover from its decade-long economic crisis.
In this 2020 fiscal budget, it is projected that the primary budget surplus will account for 3.56% of GDP next year, and the unemployment rate will decrease to 15.4%.
On the same day, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) released a report predicting that after a 1.9% growth in 2019, the Greek economy is expected to grow by 2.1% and 2.0% in 2020 and 2021, respectively. In its Economic Outlook report, the OECD noted that Greece is expected to meet its target of a 3.5% primary GDP surplus next year, and emphasized that the government's planned expansionary fiscal policy could bring growth exceeding expectations. The OECD believes that the employment situation and wage growth in Greece will boost consumption, while an improved financing environment and increased confidence will attract business investment.
Those who follow Greece know that the country's economic momentum has been strong in recent years, and it successfully exited its international bailout program in 2018. As the positive outlook for the Greek economy becomes increasingly apparent, a large number of international investors have flocked to the country, with the Greek real estate market being particularly hot.
As one of the primary ways for investors to participate in the Greek real estate market, the Greek property investment immigration program allows investors to apply for permanent residence visas for three generations of their family by investing in properties starting from 250,000 euros. This grants them the ability to travel freely across 26 Schengen countries, enjoy social benefits such as Greek education and healthcare, and acquire permanent property rights in Greece. It is a multi-benefit solution that is highly sought after by global investors.
Recently, there have been reports that the Greek Ministry of Interior is currently discussing adjustments to the threshold for the Greek property investment immigration program. Whether the threshold for this popular program will be gradually increased in the future remains to be seen. As an investor, while seizing opportunities, one must also be clearly aware that the window for investment is constantly narrowing. In the current favorable economic environment in Greece, not missing out is the best investment! Therefore, investors interested in the Greek market should act quickly to benefit sooner.
