Madrid, the capital of Spain, is the country's largest city, economic hub, and the capital of the Community of Madrid. It is a renowned historic city in Europe. It serves as the comprehensive economic center of Spain's central economic zone, as well as a hub for transportation, logistics, research and development, consumption, and high-tech industries.
Madrid is also Spain's commercial center and a hub for "headquarters economy." It is located in the center of Spain, with the Manzanares River flowing through it. Situated in the middle of the Meseta Central on the Iberian Peninsula, within a mountain plateau basin at the southeastern foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama, it stands at an altitude of 670 meters, making it the highest capital city in Europe.
To the south, it connects to the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates it from the African continent by a narrow stretch of water, and to the north, it reaches the heart of Europe across the Pyrenees. Therefore, its geographical location is of great importance, and it has historically been known as the "Gate of Europe" due to its strategic position.
Madrid is also a center for tourism and culture in Southern Europe, boasting rich historical and cultural heritage, comprehensive modern tourism facilities, and a well-developed service sector.
