Studying in Singapore has long been popular among Chinese students. Singapore is highly receptive to international students. Furthermore, due to geographical factors and the influence of bilingual education, many Chinese students choose Singapore. Compared to the significant cultural differences in Europe and the United States, the large ethnic Chinese population in Singapore is also a distinct advantage, providing a very similar cultural environment that makes it relatively easy for Chinese students to integrate.
I. Undergraduate Stage
Public Universities
1. Admissions for the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University typically take place from October of the previous year to February of the current year. An IELTS score is required for application. Written tests and interviews are generally held in March, with final admission based on Gaokao (National College Entrance Examination) scores.
2. Given the high international rankings of these institutions, students applying for admission must not only have excellent foundational course grades but also possess strong English proficiency.
3. For recent high school graduates, applicants must achieve scores equivalent to Tier 1 universities in China, with an average grade of 80 or above, to be eligible to apply and take the university entrance examination. An IELTS score of no less than 6.5 is required.
Private Universities
1. Students choosing private universities come from diverse backgrounds, often using a private university degree as a stepping stone to pursue higher education.
2. Private universities offer flexible academic systems, allowing outstanding students to complete their undergraduate studies and earn their degrees in the shortest possible time, enabling them to enter master's programs earlier than their peers.
3. Private universities generally do not have specific requirements for Gaokao scores, so students who may have average academic performance in China for various reasons can find suitable learning methods and pathways for further education in Singapore. Private universities usually provide entrance English tests with flexible scheduling; students without an IELTS score can enroll through these English tests, maximizing time efficiency.
4. Students who have completed at least the first year of high school or equivalent qualifications can apply directly without TOEFL or IELTS scores, though they are generally required to complete a preparatory course first. Students without a high school diploma must complete both a preparatory course and relevant professional certificate programs.
II. Postgraduate Stage
Public Universities
1. Applicants are required to hold a bachelor's degree from a 211 or 985 key university with an average grade of 80 or above. They must demonstrate academic research capability and possess an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher. Additionally, graduation certificates and bachelor's degree certificates in relevant majors are required.
2. A GMAT score is required for business majors, and a GRE score is required for engineering majors.
3. The annual cost of study is approximately 150,000 to 200,000 RMB, with the academic year typically starting in August (some programs have January intakes).
Helpful Tips:
The choice of major for postgraduate applications in Singapore is primarily based on the student's undergraduate academic background. Since admission to master's programs at public universities in Singapore does not require a professional entrance exam, a key factor in the application assessment is the alignment between the applicant's academic background and the intended major. Therefore, it is not recommended for students to apply for master's programs in a different field unless their overall profile is highly persuasive.
Private Universities
There are many private institutions in Singapore with varying levels of quality. When choosing a private institution, ensure it holds EduTrust certification. Requirements include a bachelor's degree from a recognized university, transcripts showing average grades during the study period, and an IELTS score of approximately 6.5.
