How much does studying in Canada cost? We usually have a few numerical concepts—200,000, 300,000, 1,000,000, 2,000,000 RMB, which are the figures we often hear. However, the corresponding content varies, or is not precise enough, making it difficult to clarify the issue of study expenses.
Regarding the above figures, students and parents are still uncertain about the annual expenses in Canada, or cannot pinpoint it to a few thousand. The aforementioned numbers are just "big numbers," large and cold figures. The study budget, which refers to how much it costs to study abroad, is mainly divided into tuition fees and living expenses. For tuition fees, we can choose institutions with higher or lower tuition based on our budget. The expenditure on living expenses has a stronger "plasticity."
For "tuition fees," we first need to have a few concepts or understandings:
The more international students an institution has, the higher the tuition fees;
The tuition fees for international students at the undergraduate level are 3-4 times that of domestic students in Canada (of course, one cannot compare the tuition fees of international students in business at the University of Toronto with those of domestic students in regular disciplines);
Tuition fee levels are not guided by institutional rankings;
Tuition fee levels are not directly related to the classification of institutions (medical doctoral, comprehensive, basic);
In Quebec, tuition fees are divided into three categories: provincial, out-of-province, and international students;
The difference in tuition fees between domestic and international students is mainly at the undergraduate level, with a smaller gap at the master's level.
When comparing undergraduate tuition fees at Canadian universities, excluding the higher or lower institution options, the cost range is approximately $28,000-$38,000 CAD per year, plus other miscellaneous fees and related costs, equivalent to 150,000-200,000 RMB.
Note 1: The overall tuition fees for colleges (diploma programs) are 60%-70% of university undergraduate tuition fees.
Note 2: The tuition fees for master's programs are 70%-80% of university undergraduate tuition fees, calculated by discipline.
By combining tuition fees and living expenses, we arrive at the average annual cost of studying in Canada:
Undergraduate: 200,000-300,000 RMB;
College: 150,000-250,000 RMB;
Master's: 180,000-260,000 RMB.
Regional factors can cause differences in living expenses. For metropolitan areas such as Vancouver and the Greater Vancouver area, Toronto and the Greater Toronto area, the living costs are relatively high. At the same time, the living costs in very remote third- and fourth-tier towns are not as low as imagined, possibly due to supply and demand relationships.
