WorldWay has learned that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently proposed the introduction of an artificial intelligence "Predictive Analytics" system to automatically process applications using computers, thereby improving processing efficiency.
In recent years, with the increasing number of people traveling to and studying in Canada, the workload at Canadian visa offices in China has been growing at a rate of 20% annually. Applications received by visa offices across China reached nearly 800,000 in 2018; this figure is projected to be between 800,000 and 1 million in 2019, and is expected to exceed 1 million, reaching between 1 million and 1.2 million, by 2020. Due to this rapid increase in application volume, visa offices are concerned that it will be difficult to process cases in a timely manner starting from the 2018 peak season. Without an increase in personnel, the overall operational efficiency will be affected, making it difficult to meet service standards for the prompt processing of visitor visas.
To address this issue, the Canadian immigration department has proposed a plan to develop and introduce a "Predictive Analytics" system powered by artificial intelligence. By utilizing predictive analysis models, the computer system will assist in the classification and assessment of applicants' status and risk, and then proceed to make decisions on visitor visa (E-Apps) applications submitted online.
This system is initially planned for use in processing visitor and student visa cases from China and India, with future applications extending to citizenship and passport applications.
In fact, this system has been piloted since 2017. However, because it was not yet fully integrated with the Canadian immigration department's global case management system at the time, some degree of manual intervention was still required. The long-term goal is for the system to operate fully automatically.
A spokesperson for the Canadian immigration department stated that as the number of temporary resident visa applicants continues to rise, using artificial intelligence in the review process can significantly save time and improve efficiency. With this digital assistant, many applications submitted from China can be streamlined, with processing speeds improved by nearly 90%.
The adoption of artificial intelligence to process visas for Chinese travelers is undoubtedly welcome news, as it will significantly reduce waiting times for those planning to visit Canada.
In recent years, Canada has become a preferred destination for global investors due to its world-class education, fresh air, livable environment, generous child benefits, and comprehensive child protection laws and regulations. It is believed that Canada will continue to attract more people to immigrate there in the future by leveraging its inherent advantages.
