Latest update: The Visa on Arrival fee is waived until April 30, 2019. However, please be advised that although the fee is waived, authorities may conduct random checks for cash (no less than 20,000 THB per person or equivalent in foreign currency, or 4,000 CNY; no less than 40,000 THB per family, or 8,000 CNY). If you are selected for a check and do not have sufficient funds, you may be deported. Even though the fee is waived, I carried 4,000 THB and 5,000 CNY in my wallet. Although I was not checked, I still advise everyone to carry sufficient funds. If you are checked and do not have enough, it would be a wasted trip, which is not only a waste of money and energy but also ruins your mood. It is highly recommended not to exchange currency at airport exchange counters, as the rates are low and not cost-effective!
