The F-1 visa is the most common type of student visa. If you are attending a school recognized by the U.S. government (including accredited U.S. universities or colleges, private high schools, or approved English language programs, etc.), you should apply for an F-1 visa. Additionally, if you are taking more than 18 hours of classes per week, you should also apply for an F-1 visa.
To apply for an F visa, you must pay a $160 application fee and submit the following materials:
1. Non-immigrant visa electronic application form (DS-160).
2. A valid passport for travel to the United States, which must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in the U.S. (except for countries with special agreements that enjoy exemptions, which are U.S. allies, and we do not care about). If the passport contains more than one person, each visa applicant must submit a separate application.
3. A 2-inch x 2-inch passport photo (5.1 cm x 5.1 cm) taken within the last six months (submitting a photo that does not meet the standards will delay the visa application process, of course, passport photos are also acceptable).
4. The I-20 form provided by the U.S. school or program.
SEVIS (I-901) fee payment receipt (proving that the applicant has paid the SEVIS fee).
In addition to the above materials, the applicant should also present the interview appointment confirmation, proving that you have scheduled an interview through this service channel. You may also provide other supporting documents to the visa officer.
