The application process for the Canadian Permanent Resident Card is mainly divided into six steps, as follows:
Step 1: Prepare the required materials for the Canadian Permanent Resident Card:
1. SUPPLEMENTARY IDENTIFICATION FORM IMM5455
2. IMM 5444 PAGE 3 OF 4 (original Canadian specification paper)
3. Permanent Resident Card photo
4. Permanent Resident Card application form IMM5444E
5. List of other required documents
Step 2: Mail all prepared materials to the Canadian Immigration Department's Permanent Resident Card Review Center.
Step 3: Wait for the Immigration Department's review
Once the materials enter the Permanent Resident Card Review Center, based on the work progress of the Review Center, under normal circumstances, it takes 2-4 months to process. In special cases, expedited processing is available, which only takes about 3-5 weeks. For details, please refer to the Canadian Immigration Department's website regarding the processing times for the Permanent Resident Card: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/process-in.asp#pr_card.
Step 4: Check the results of the Permanent Resident Card review
About three months after submitting the application, applicants can check the status of their Permanent Resident Card on the relevant page of the Canadian Immigration Department's website: https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/?app=ecas&lang=en. By entering their Permanent Resident Card number, last name, and date of birth, they can find out the processing status of their Permanent Resident Card.
The processing progress is divided into two steps:
1. The first step is "in process":
This indicates that the applicant's application has been started to be reviewed by an immigration officer at the Permanent Resident Card Review Center, and the review situation is as follows:
(1) If the application is proceeding smoothly, it will directly move to the next step: "Decision Made" (the review has results);
(2) If the immigration officer believes there are certain issues with the applicant's materials, additional information will be required.
2. The second step is "Decision Made" (the review has results), and the results are as follows:
(1) Approved: The Immigration Department will issue a notification letter for picking up the Permanent Resident Card within four weeks. With this notification letter and the original identity documents, the applicant can go to the designated immigration office in Canada to collect the new Permanent Resident Card;
(2) Not approved: The applicant can appeal, and there are two possible outcomes after the appeal:
A. Appeal successful: The Immigration Department approves the applicant's Permanent Resident Card renewal application, and the Immigration Department will issue a notification letter for picking up the Permanent Resident Card within four weeks. With this notification letter and the original identity documents, the applicant can go to the designated immigration office in Canada to collect the new Permanent Resident Card;
B. Appeal unsuccessful: The Immigration Department rejects the client's Permanent Resident Card renewal application.
Step 5: Wait for the Immigration Department's notification letter for picking up the Permanent Resident Card
Under normal processing, it takes 4-6 weeks to receive the notification letter (in special cases, expedited processing is available, and the waiting time for expedited processing is about 1 week).
Step 6: Collect the Permanent Resident Card
The general processing time for the Permanent Resident Card is 8-12 weeks. The applicant must personally go to the designated location to collect it with the notification letter; it cannot be collected by others. The Immigration Department will keep the card for the applicant for 180 days after it is produced. If the applicant fails to collect it within the time limit, the card will be destroyed. At that time, the applicant must reapply.
