The Canada Super Visa is a "substitute" for the parent and grandparent family reunification immigration visa; it is a type of visitor visa for Canada.
There are currently three categories of visitor visas for Canada:
1. Super Visa: Holders of a Super Visa can travel to Canada multiple times within 10 years, with each stay lasting up to 2 years;
2. Multiple Entry Visa: Valid for 10 years with multiple entries, each stay not exceeding 6 months;
3. Single Entry Visa: Valid for 6 months, single entry, with each stay not exceeding 6 months. (As of February 6, 2014, all regular visas to Canada will automatically be upgraded to multiple entry visas.)
The Canada Super Visa differs from previous single entry and multiple entry visas in that it has specific requirements regarding the minimum income of the sponsor and requires proof of medical insurance purchase to be submitted with the application materials.
The requirements for applying for a Canada Super Visa are as follows:
First: The sponsor within Canada must meet the income requirements.
Second: The applicant must prove that they have purchased private medical insurance for a minimum of 1 year with a coverage amount of at least CAD 100,000, which can be used for medical treatment, hospitalization, and, if necessary, repatriation to their home country.
Third: The applicant must not be a person who has been denied entry to Canada, such as individuals with a criminal record.
Fourth: The applicant must pass a medical examination.
