The Portuguese government launched the Golden Residence Permit program in 2012, allowing investors to apply for a Portuguese Golden Residence Visa for their entire family by investing in Portuguese real estate starting from €500,000, which has been highly sought after by investors. In June 2015, the Portuguese Parliament passed a new Golden Residence Permit law (Law no. 63/2015), introducing new investment options for Golden Residence applications. One of these options is that applicants can invest in properties in Portugal that are over 30 years old or located in designated urban rehabilitation areas, and renovate them, with a total investment value exceeding €350,000, thus allowing their entire family to obtain the Portuguese Golden Residence Permit.
In fact, investing in Portuguese real estate starting from €350,000 not only grants you a Portuguese Golden Residence Permit but also allows you to apply for a Portuguese EU passport. In July 2018, the Portuguese government enacted the "Amendment to the Portuguese Nationality Law," lowering the citizenship application threshold by reducing the residency requirement from 6 years to 5 years. This means that holders of the Portuguese Golden Residence Visa who have resided in Portugal for a total of 35 days within 5 years and have passed the A2 language exam in Portuguese are eligible to apply for Portuguese citizenship and obtain a Portuguese EU passport.
The Portuguese passport holds significant value
