Worldway Group News: Recently, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that the 2019 Parents and Grandparents Program will reopen in late January 2019. IRCC stated that the quota for the 2019 Parents and Grandparents Program will be increased to 20,000. Further details will be released in the "coming weeks."
The Parents and Grandparents Program, also known as PGP, allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents aged 18 or older to sponsor their parents and/or grandparents for Canadian permanent residence. It is reported that the reopened Parents and Grandparents Program will operate on a "first-come, first-served" basis, replacing the previous random invitation lottery system.
I. Requirements for Sponsors:
Sponsors intending to apply in 2019 must meet the income requirements for three consecutive years: 2016, 2017, and 2018. To determine if their income qualifies, sponsors need to check their total pre-tax income (Line 150) on their Notice of Assessment for the past three years.
If a couple is co-sponsoring, they may combine their incomes to see if their total household income meets the requirements for three consecutive years. When calculating total income, certain payments must be deducted, including provincial training program allowances, provincial social assistance, government financial assistance for resettlement, Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, and Old Age Security (OAS) benefits.
II. Processing Time:
The current official processing time announced by the immigration authorities is approximately 20-24 months. According to the latest notice released by the immigration authorities, they are committed to improving the processing speed for this category, so processing times are expected to shorten further in the future.

Worldway Group will keep a close watch on the latest news regarding Canada's family reunification immigration.
