Recently, with the arrival of the mega-cruise ship 'the Freedom Of The Seas' carrying over 4,000 passengers, Saint Kitts and Nevis welcomed its 1,000,000th passenger of the 2017-2018 cruise season.
To celebrate this historic milestone, the Saint Kitts Ministry of Tourism hosted a grand celebration that day. A band played rhythmic traditional Caribbean music at the port to welcome visitors from all over the world. The Ministry of Tourism also distributed souvenirs, such as T-shirts, to the arriving passengers to thank them for visiting this "dual-island paradise" in the Caribbean and to serve as a memento of the historic moment they helped create.
The 1,000,000th passenger was a lovely couple who not only received souvenirs from the Tourism Authority but also had all their expenses during their vacation on the island covered by the Saint Kitts Tourism Authority.
Thanks to the island's unique natural environment, the economy of Saint Kitts has diversified in recent years. In addition to the continued development of the sugar, manufacturing, construction, and financial industries, the tourism sector has performed particularly well and has become the fastest-growing industry in Saint Kitts and Nevis, with a steady annual growth rate of 18%.
In 2016, tourism revenue in Saint Kitts and Nevis reached $67.2 million, with approximately 400,000 tourist arrivals.
This small island nation was named "Innovative Destination of the Year" by the Caribbean Journal, received the highest honor in the Caribbean tourism industry, the "Caribbean Tourism Award," and was named one of the 15 emerging travel hotspots by The Huffington Post.
Entering the summer season, cruise terminals on various islands are welcoming the peak travel season, and Saint Kitts is seeing a steady stream of visitors. Everything here is inherently unique; it is a paradise island full of exotic charm.
