Recently, Canada's Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen, announced that the application quota for this year's Parents and Grandparents Program will be increased from the original 10,000 to 17,000, an addition of 7,000 spots. This information has also been published on the official Canadian government website.
Meanwhile, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) stated that starting from July 31, a second round of invitations will be conducted among candidates who submitted their interest forms at the beginning of the year. Once selected, applicants will receive an email notification within the next 2 to 3 days.
IRCC stated that this increase in the quota for the Parents and Grandparents Program is intended to meet the needs of more applicants. As early as the beginning of 2018, those interested in applying for the Parents and Grandparents Program submitted their interest forms online in January. After the application deadline on February 1, IRCC reviewed these submissions, filtered out duplicate applications, and conducted the first round of invitations.
The results of the first round of invitations were sent via email on March 19. Subsequent email notifications were sent on May 7 and May 14 to ensure that IRCC could receive complete application packages by May 25.
For the additional spots, IRCC will use the same random selection method. Selected applicants will have 60 days to prepare and submit their complete application packages for the Parents and Grandparents Program. Additionally, those who are not successful in the Parents and Grandparents Program may choose to apply for a Super Visa for their parents and grandparents. The Canadian Super Visa allows holders to stay in Canada for up to 2 years per visit, whereas a standard visitor visa allows for a stay of up to 6 months.
Important Notes:
● For these newly added spots for the Parents and Grandparents Program, IRCC will begin sending email notifications to selected applicants starting from July 31.
● Applicants who submitted their materials in 2018 should check their emails this week.
● Only those who have already submitted an application are eligible to receive an email.
● Starting from July 31, those who have submitted an application can check if they have been selected by entering their confirmation number on the official IRCC website.
● If the number appears on the invitation list, you may proceed to submit your application.
● If the number does not appear, it means you have not been selected yet.
● If an applicant does not know their confirmation number, they can also enter their personal information on the official website to inquire. It generally takes 10 business days to receive a response from IRCC regarding whether they have been selected.
As is well known, Canada, as a long-standing immigration destination, has always been favored by investors from various countries due to its flexible immigration policies and generous benefits. In particular, in November 2017, the Canadian federal immigration authorities announced a major positive development: nearly 1 million new immigrants will be accepted over the next three years. This can be said to have ushered in a golden age for immigration to Canada.
Therefore, for those who intend to immigrate to Canada, it is essential to act early; seizing the quota is a matter of urgency.
