According to information received by WorldWay Group, the Ministry of Education has issued a new document, introducing significant adjustments to the eligibility criteria for overseas Chinese students starting in 2019:
I. Definition of Overseas Chinese Eligibility:
For overseas Chinese examinees, both the examinee and at least one of their parents must have obtained long-term or permanent residency in the country of residence and have resided there continuously for 2 years (as of the application deadline). Within these two years, they must have accumulated at least 18 months of residence, with the examinee specifically having resided in the country of residence for at least 18 months in total within the 2 years prior to the application.
If the examinee or one of their parents has not obtained long-term or permanent residency in the country of residence, but has obtained legal residency for at least 5 consecutive years (including the 5th year) in the country of residence, has accumulated at least 30 months of residence within 5 years, and the examinee has actually resided in the country of residence for no less than 30 months in total within the 5 years prior to the application, they may also be eligible to apply.
II. Materials Required from Overseas Chinese Examinees:
① Legal documentation proving the relationship with the parent who holds the overseas Chinese status (if both parents are deceased, relevant legal materials such as the parents' overseas Chinese status certificates and death certificates must be provided);
② Certification of long-term or permanent residency obtained by the examinee and at least one parent in a foreign country, issued by a Chinese embassy or consulate (in Chinese, must specify the continuous residency duration and the actual accumulated residency time within two years), or certification of legal residency status (in Chinese, must specify the continuous duration of the legal residency status obtained by the examinee and at least one parent, and the actual accumulated residency time within 5 years);
③ Passport of the People's Republic of China. If the applicant is settled in a country that has not yet established diplomatic relations with China, they must present certification of their residency status issued by the embassy or consulate of a third country that has diplomatic relations with both China and the country of settlement, as well as a certificate issued by a Chinese embassy or consulate in that third country (in Chinese, must specify the date when residency was obtained).
