Worldway Group has learned: According to the Philippine World Daily, Philippine Secretary of Labor Silvestre Bello III stated that the Philippines and China have signed an agreement to lift restrictions on Filipino workers in China, and are prepared to accept 300,000 Filipinos for employment in China, including 100,000 English teachers.
Bello added that senior Philippine officials and the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines, Zhao Jianhua, signed a Memorandum of Understanding which stipulates that Filipino teachers will receive a monthly salary of $1,500. The agreement covers details such as salary standards, related benefits, working hours, labor treatment, and anti-abuse labor protections. Bello said that all Filipino workers will be employed in Beijing, Shanghai, and three other major cities.
The Philippines is one of the world's major exporters of labor, and overseas remittances are an important pillar of the national economy, accounting for approximately 9% of GDP. There are about 2.4 million Filipino contract workers abroad, accounting for about 2.4% of the total population. In addition, there is a much larger number of Filipino immigrants, settlers, or residents, bringing the total number of Filipinos working abroad to nearly 10 million, with China consistently being one of the major sources of Filipino immigration. There are currently about three million overseas Chinese in the Philippines. Over the past century, the Philippines has been the primary Southeast Asian country for people from mainland China to immigrate to. An increasing number of people are immigrating to the Philippines to invest and live, which on one hand reflects recognition of the local investment environment, and on the other hand, indicates that the livability of this place is being recognized by more and more people.
