Recently, a petition regarding EB-5 reform was officially launched on the White House petition website (We The People), quickly drawing attention from all sectors of the industry and EB-5 investors. For the healthy development of the EB-5 industry and the interests of the vast number of investors, WorldWay Group, as a leading investment immigration institution, is willing to join investors in speaking out for this petition and calls on global EB-5 stakeholders and investors to actively participate in the petition to jointly promote EB-5 reform.
We The People is an official White House petition website, a policy introduced during the Obama administration. The main purpose of the website is to provide the public with a new way to create and share signed petitions. If a petition receives 100,000 signatures within 30 days of its launch, the White House is required to provide a response.
This time, through the We The People website, the petition calls on the federal government to urge Congress to take action on the following issue: Redefine visa quotas to resolve the backlog issue.
In fact, the U.S. Congress has long been discussing solutions to resolve the visa backlog. Among them, the "EB-5 Comprehensive Reform Bill" proposed by Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn explicitly states from a legislative perspective: EB-5 visa quotas should not count the spouse and children of the principal applicant (counting only the principal applicant), which means changing 10,000 applicants into 10,000 families.
Other noteworthy solutions for the backlog include: A one-time use of accumulated unused "wasted visas" from previous years, and drawing visa quotas from the Diversity Visa Program (i.e., the "Green Card Lottery").
Although the above solutions for resolving the visa backlog have not yet been implemented, Congress is working hard to make substantive progress. Of course, among these proposals, the most thorough solution to the visa backlog is: EB-5 visa quotas should not count the spouse and children of the principal applicant (counting only the principal applicant).
Currently, all sectors in the United States are working hard to resolve the visa backlog issue. Regardless of whether this appeal receives a response from the White House, it is certain that the current visa backlog is based on current immigration policies. If the proposal is passed, the U.S. EB-5 backlog issue will be alleviated.
Therefore, in response to this proposal, we hope everyone will actively participate in this petition, specifically requesting the addition of the following clause: Visa quotas should only apply to the principal applicant and not to their spouse or children.
WorldWay Group Warm Reminder:
The 10,000 annual global EB-5 quota is calculated per person; for example, a family of three occupies 3 spots. This petition to change the visa quota to apply only to the principal applicant means that the 10,000 spots would become 10,000 families, significantly reducing the number of people in the queue and effectively resolving the backlog issue.
Regarding some questions about this petition:
1. Will the White House interfere with Congressional matters?
This White House petition is a "Call on Congress to act on an issue."
2. Can the petition be successful?
As long as 100,000 signatures are obtained within 30 days, the White House must respond.
3. Is the petition effective?
The purpose is to speak out and call on relevant members of Congress who are committed to promoting EB-5 reform to consider the interests of existing EB-5 investors and resolve the backlog from a legislative perspective. Once it receives attention, further lobbying can be conducted to Congress through media, industry organizations, and other channels. Rather than complaining and waiting, it is better to take action.
4. When must the voting be completed?
We need to reach the goal of 100,000 signatures within at least one month. Therefore, if we set a goal, it is: collect 100,000 signatures within one month from the launch date (March 15).
Currently, there are 7,378 signatures, which means that by April 14, another 92,622 signatures are needed. We hope that investors will take action for their own interests and mobilize their friends and family to vote together. Action speaks louder than words; let's achieve this goal together.
