Do you remember the news from 2016? The proposal for free movement between Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, put forward by then-London Mayor Boris Johnson, suggested that immigrating to one country would be equivalent to immigrating to all four. At the time, this news caused a stir and its authenticity was questioned—is immigrating to one country really equivalent to four? With the dust settling on Brexit, this initiative proposed by Commonwealth nations for free movement and a 'merger' of the four countries has recently seen new developments!
According to multiple English-language media reports, a petition launched by the non-profit organization CANZUK International regarding the free movement of people between Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand has now collected over 200,000 signatures.
The ultimate goal of this plan, simply put, is this: if this policy is implemented, possessing citizenship in any one of these four countries—Canada, the UK, Australia, or New Zealand—would be equivalent to having immigrated to all four! This plan is not only aimed at free movement and migration between the citizens of the four countries, but more importantly, it also includes the integration of work and social benefits. In other words, once you successfully immigrate to one of the four countries, you could enjoy the same standard of living, employment, and even social benefits in the other three!
This news is not a rumor. The plan was initially proposed by London Mayor Boris Johnson, and in early 2016, it was proposed again by several British Members of Parliament.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has also reported on the CANZUK initiative. CANZUK was founded in 2014 by James Skinner, a British national residing in Vancouver.
In Skinner's view, the people of these four Commonwealth nations—Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand—are essentially the same, with the only difference being the cover of their passports. To achieve the free movement of people between these four countries, the organization is actively calling for the relaxation of visa and work permit restrictions among them. The plan has already been polled across the four countries, and the results show that the majority of the public in each country strongly supports the proposal.
Currently, Canada appears to have a positive attitude toward this plan. Former Immigration Minister Chris Alexander has even suggested that Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand establish a unified system for exchanging identity data of entrants to facilitate the future advancement of this policy.
Once the plan is implemented, for Chinese immigrants, becoming a citizen of any one of these four countries—Canada, the UK, Australia, or New Zealand—would mean enjoying social benefits, unrestricted work, and free travel across all four! For Chinese people who have immigrated to Canada, the value of their Canadian passport will increase significantly, and they will also gain new investment opportunities.
So, should you seize the opportunity and hurry to obtain an immigration status? Currently, Canadian investment immigration is in a favorable policy period: the launch of the million-immigrant plan, the implementation of the C-6 amendment bill, the relaxation of the age limit for dependent children, and the addition of 7 new visa centers in China... a series of favorable policies indicate that Canadian investment immigration is in a golden age. If the four-country integration of Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand becomes a reality in the future, immigrating to one will be equivalent to immigrating to four, and free movement will no longer be a dream!
