Last Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and Republican members of Congress discussed immigration reform at the White House. He told reporters that any immigration bill to resolve the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) issue must include funding for a border wall, an end to chain migration, and the termination of the visa lottery.
The Trump administration announced last September that it would temporarily terminate the DACA program and gave Congress six months to propose permanent legislative solutions. This deadline expires on March 5 of this year.
Currently, there are approximately 800,000 undocumented immigrants in the United States who entered the country with their parents before the age of 16. In 2012, President Obama signed an executive order for DACA, allowing them to remain in the U.S. with two-year, renewable work authorizations.
On December 28 of last year, Trump told The New York Times that "there is no DACA without a border wall," citing the influx of drugs into the United States.
"Any legislation on DACA must include a border wall to protect our borders," Trump reiterated. "This bill must provide the resources needed by law enforcement to stop illegal immigration, end visa overstays, and, most importantly, end chain migration and the visa lottery."
Trump also expressed his desire to replace the current family-based immigration system with a merit-based system.
It is evident that the strict conditions proposed by Trump for the DACA immigration bill align with the "Five Major Immigration Trends for 2018" previously released by Worldway Group, which noted that the U.S. is launching its largest immigration reform in 30 years and that immigration policies will tighten to an unprecedented degree. The glacial age of U.S. immigration has arrived. For investors, 2018 is destined to be an extraordinary year; however, when it comes to immigrating to the U.S., one must avoid hesitation and waiting. With policies changing rapidly, seizing the current opportunity is of the utmost importance.
Currently, the Manhattan 9 luxury boutique hotel project, for which Worldway Group serves as the exclusive agent in Greater China, is the only EB-5 project in Manhattan with the potential for expedited processing and first-priority repayment.
