According to foreign media reports, since the Canadian federal immigration office implemented the new Citizenship Act C-6 in mid-October, which relaxed the language proficiency requirements in English or French and the residency duration in Canada for applicants, the number of people applying for Canadian citizenship has surged.
Before the implementation of the new Citizenship Act C-6 on October 11, 2017, an average of 3,653 people applied for citizenship each week; however, in the first week after the implementation of the C-6 Act, the number of applicants surged nearly fivefold to 17,500, and although the number of applicants decreased in the second week, it still exceeded 12,500.

Nancy Caron, a spokesperson for the federal government’s Department of Immigration and Refugees, believes that many new immigrants who previously did not meet the requirements for citizenship will now qualify to apply for Canadian citizenship due to the relaxed residency requirements.
According to statistics, in recent years, an average of 200,000 people have submitted applications for Canadian citizenship each year, with Chinese applicants being the most active. The Canadian government has also introduced a series of favorable policies to welcome more Chinese immigrants, such as promising to keep the processing time for applications within 12 months and adding seven new visa centers in China.
Canada's open attitude towards welcoming new immigrants is undoubtedly beneficial for families wishing to immigrate to Canada. Immigrating to Canada, enjoying the livable environment and free healthcare, and allowing children to receive a nationalized education is not difficult.
