The U.S. government's funding will run out in 9 days. President Trump and the Democratic leaders in Congress were scheduled to meet on Tuesday to discuss how to avoid a government shutdown.
Trump commented on Twitter that he plans to meet with the two top Democratic leaders in Congress, Senate Minority Leader Schumer and House Minority Leader Pelosi, to discuss "how to keep the government open and running" after the funding deadline on December 8.
However, President Trump acknowledged that he does not believe he can reach an agreement with Schumer and Pelosi. Hours later, Schumer and Pelosi canceled the planned meeting at the White House. They stated that since Trump does not believe an agreement can be reached, they do not want to "waste time" meeting with him. Schumer and Pelosi said that "the best way forward" is to meet with the top Republican leaders in Congress—Senate Majority Leader McConnell and House Speaker Ryan.
This fiscal year ends at the end of September 2018. If political leaders cannot immediately reach an agreement on federal government funding for this fiscal year, they can choose to approve a short-term funding extension agreement and then aim to reach a longer-term agreement before Congress breaks for Christmas and New Year. Otherwise, the U.S. government will shut down.
So, the question of concern for investment immigrants arises: if the congressional leaders achieve nothing on the federal funding issue, can the EB-5 Regional Center Program continue?
WorldWay Immigration will continue to monitor the critical deadline of December 8 for the U.S. investment immigration regional center program! For more information, please call: 400-138-2929.
