According to a report by the Greek newspaper "Kathimerini" on November 7, the Greek Minister of Tourism, Elena Kountoura, stated that 2017 is a milestone year for the development of the Greek tourism industry, with the number of inbound tourists expected to exceed 30 million, anticipating double-digit growth, marking the fourth consecutive year of growth exceeding 7%, and tourism revenue is expected to rise significantly. Notably, the number of tourists from Germany, France, the United States, Canada, Russia, and China has shown a marked increase.
In terms of entry methods, the increase in air arrivals for tourism in the first eight months of 2017 was 6%, with over 150 new flight routes added throughout the year, and cruise ship arrivals exceeding 3 million passengers.
Kountoura stated that over the past two years, the Ministry of Tourism has received 265 applications for the development of four-star and above hotels and resorts, and 14 regional airports are currently undergoing or preparing for upgrades, all indicating a positive outlook for the development of the Greek tourism industry, with the number of inbound tourists expected to continue to grow.
The strong growth of the Greek tourism industry has led to a significant influx of foreign capital into the Greek market. According to data analysis from the Bank of Greece, the estimated capital inflow into the Greek real estate market from abroad this year is as high as 500 million euros, with a year-on-year increase of approximately 72% in capital flow during the first seven months. The prosperity of the Greek tourism industry and the increasing number of investment projects are major factors stimulating local real estate demand.
Greece is a popular destination for investment immigration and is also the birthplace of European civilization, boasting a comprehensive EU education system. After obtaining permanent residency in Greece, the children of investors can enjoy free education in Greek public schools. Additionally, Greece has a well-established prevention and emergency system, and its healthcare system is highly developed, providing various benefits for investment immigrants.
Now is a favorable time for Greece's relatively relaxed immigration policies, with shorter and faster processing times, making it an excellent opportunity for real estate investment. The island properties launched by WorldWay Immigration come with a five-year lease and a 7% annual return, allowing investors to recover 35% of their profits in five years, which means that an investment of only 160,000 euros can facilitate immigration for three generations to Greece.
