To live comfortably and freely in any country, one must understand the local regulations, and investment immigration to Cyprus is no exception. Below, we introduce some important driving considerations for life after immigrating to Cyprus. Let's take a look!
1. Road Tax
Cyprus road tax, also known as circulation fees, is paid to the Department of Road Transport annually between January and December. It is usually paid in full, and the rate depends on the size of the vehicle's engine; the larger the engine, the higher the tax rate. The vehicle road tax registration certificate must be displayed on the car's windshield.
2. Speed Limits
◆ The speed limit on highways is 100 km/h;
◆ Regional roads: 80 km/h, unless otherwise indicated;
◆ Busy areas (towns, villages): 50 km/h, unless otherwise indicated;
◆ Speeding is subject to fines.
Police will check vehicle speeds. Some traffic cameras are now in operation in Cyprus, mainly installed at traffic lights to catch those running red lights, using mobile phones while driving, or not wearing seat belts, etc. These will be rolled out over time. The police will also use mobile cameras to check for speeding.
3. Parking
◆ Municipal, private parking spaces, and garages are widely used. There are also paid parking lots in the city center. (Usually, no fees are charged on Saturday afternoons, Sundays, or public holidays).
◆ Parking or waiting on double yellow lines is illegal.
◆ You may stop briefly on single yellow lines for loading or unloading (though parking is prohibited).
4. Gasoline and Fuel
◆ All gas stations sell high-quality (Super 95) unleaded gasoline and diesel;
◆ Gasoline is calculated in liters;
◆ Many gas stations in cities and coastal areas use self-service machines, where you can pay with credit cards or banknotes. These are usually open 24 hours a day;
◆ Gasoline or diesel may not be available on weekends or public holidays in the interior of the island and rural areas.
5. Traffic Violations and Penalties
If a traffic violation is committed, a fixed penalty notice and a fine will be issued to the offender. If the offender does not accept the fine, the court will issue a summons, and the penalty will be combined with penalty points. When the accumulated penalty points reach 12, the court has the right to revoke the offender's driving license. Once the revocation period ends, the offender may resume driving. However, the penalty points will remain on the record for three years.
6. Accidents and Breakdowns
To guard against accidents or breakdowns, it is recommended to carry a wireless/mobile phone. The Cyprus Automobile Association is a non-profit organization that provides 24-hour emergency services to its members. CAA 24-hour emergency service: 22313131. There are also multiple 24-hour private breakdown repair and towing companies in Cyprus.
More and more people are choosing to immigrate abroad, and the investment immigration programs of European countries have attracted numerous investors. For investors, buying property in Europe is not just about the house, but also about the path to success for their children and future generations. Europe possesses world-class educational resources, world-renowned universities, and even more prominent professional advantages. After immigrating to Europe, children will have the freedom to develop throughout the entire European Union and the European Economic Area. At the same time, European countries enjoy pleasant climates, fresh air, and beautiful scenery; they have high-quality medical care and a wide range of welfare programs, which can be described as "full coverage" from birth to retirement. Now, investors can spend 2 million euros to purchase property and apply for immigration to Cyprus in one step, allowing the whole family to obtain EU citizenship and reap the benefits of both wealth and status.
