With the opening of the Cyprus investment immigration policy, the number of people applying for Cyprus immigration has been increasing in recent years. Many investors are very concerned about what items are prohibited when entering Cyprus. This issue is actually quite simple. Worldway Immigration experts are here to answer your questions about what cannot be brought into Cyprus, ensuring you have no doubts on your immigration journey.
It is reported that Cyprus has signed international agreements restricting the sale, trade, and transport of endangered animals, birds, reptiles, fish, insects, and plants. This agreement also includes products made from the skin, fur, feathers, or bones of these species. When entering or leaving the country, you must declare to customs if you are carrying cash, gold products, or other equivalent currencies exceeding 10,000 Euros.
For citizens from non-EU countries, the following items for personal use carried with you are exempt from VAT, customs duties, and excise taxes:
Tobacco and tobacco products: 200 cigarettes, or 100 cigarillos, or 50 cigars, or 250 grams of tobacco;
Alcoholic beverages: 1 liter of spirits with an alcohol content exceeding 22%, or 2 liters of wine or sparkling wine; 2 liters of distilled spirits;
Perfume: 50 grams or 250 milliliters;
Other goods: Other personal consumer goods with a total value not exceeding 430 Euros.
Controlled, restricted, or prohibited items:
A. Cyprus law strictly prohibits the import, possession, and use of narcotic, hallucinogenic, and other drugs, as well as psychiatric medications;
B. To prevent the spread of pests and diseases, it is strictly prohibited to carry unprocessed agricultural products such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, and seeds;
C. Prohibited or restricted items: weapons, ammunition, and explosives; knives, daggers, and swords; obscene books, photographs, CDs, and items; counterfeit trademarks and fraudulent goods; pirated or counterfeit goods; animals and poultry; fresh meat, fish and their products, and fresh dairy products;
D. Antiques and gold that are prohibited or restricted from import according to Cyprus law;
E. Pets: Before bringing any animal to Cyprus from overseas, you must contact the Food Inspection Agency Import Service Centre;
F. Prescription drugs: When bringing prescription drugs into the country, you need to confirm that the medication has clear certification. The medication must have its original label and instructions, as well as the prescription. If not, you should carry a copy of the prescription or a doctor's certificate;
G. Gifts: You may bring gifts for relatives and friends duty-free, provided the value does not exceed 60 Euros. However, alcoholic products, tobacco products, and advertising materials cannot be declared as gifts. Duties must be paid on any amount exceeding this limit.
Tips: The electrical voltage in Cyprus is 240 volts, 50Hz. The sockets are three-pin rectangular holes arranged in an equilateral triangle. Adapters are available at electrical stores, supermarkets, and grocery stores. It is recommended to prepare conversion plugs and transformers in your home country as essential items to carry with you.
Therefore, to avoid prohibited items and unnecessary personal losses, please pay close attention to the regulations on carrying these items when entering or leaving Cyprus.
