The U.S. Puerto Rico "Financial Oversight and Management Board" was established in accordance with the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA) of 2016 passed by the U.S. Congress. The Board consists of seven members appointed by the President of the United States and one former government official designated by the Governor of Puerto Rico. The Board is responsible for overseeing the execution of the Puerto Rican government's fiscal budget and managing public finances to assist the Puerto Rican government in resolving its fiscal crisis. It plays a pivotal role and holds significant influence within both the United States and the Puerto Rican government.
