The latest data from the 2017 China Private Wealth Report shows that the number of high net worth individuals in China with investable assets exceeding 10 million yuan has surged to 1.58 million, tripling compared to ten years ago! Among them, about 84% of high net worth individuals are concerned about the depreciation of the yuan, and considering asset allocation and wealth inheritance, approximately 56% of these wealthy individuals are investing overseas. The U.S. investment immigration and investment in U.S. real estate remain the most popular choices among Chinese citizens.
Major Motivations for Overseas Investment by Chinese Citizens
The report indicates that over 60% of high net worth individuals who have immigrated overseas did so for their children's education, followed by concerns about environmental pollution, healthcare, and social welfare issues.
Additionally, "ensuring wealth security," "wealth inheritance," diversifying risks, and seizing investment opportunities are also major considerations for high net worth individuals when participating in overseas investments.
Top Three Overseas Markets: The U.S. Ranks First
In terms of overseas target market selection, Hong Kong, the United States, and Canada are the three most preferred markets for high net worth individuals in China.
Currently, over 50% of Chinese high net worth individuals have their overseas assets concentrated in these three market regions, with the United States accounting for the highest proportion at 23%, followed by Hong Kong and Canada at 15% and 12%, respectively.
Nearly Half of High Net Worth Individuals Consider Immigration, with the U.S. as the Top Choice
The latest data shows that in 2017, 46.5% of Chinese high net worth individuals were considering immigration, with 9% having already immigrated or in the application process.
The United States has been the top destination for investment immigration among Chinese high net worth individuals for three consecutive years. Canada has surpassed the United Kingdom for the first time this year, moving to second place, while the United Kingdom has fallen to third, and Australia remains in fourth place.
