The 2017 Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report, recently released by the World Economic Forum, shows that Spain has retained the number one spot on the world travel and tourism competitiveness index for the second consecutive year with a score of 5.43, primarily due to factors such as robust infrastructure, an abundance of cultural attractions, and high safety ratings.
The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum analyzes the potential of 136 countries and regions worldwide to develop their tourism sectors and generate economic and social benefits. The ranking is comprehensive, evaluating performance across areas including the business environment, policy conditions, infrastructure, natural resources, environmental management, public safety, health and hygiene, prioritization of tourism, air and ground transport infrastructure, tourist service infrastructure, price competitiveness, human capital, tourism attitude, as well as natural and cultural resources.
It is understood that Spain’s primary advantages lie in its well-developed tourist service facilities. Additionally, thanks to its wealth of World Heritage sites, numerous museums, and sports facilities, Spain has easily become one of the most attractive and high-quality tourist destinations in the world. Every year, millions of tourists choose to visit Spain for their holidays.
High safety standards are also a key factor contributing to Spain becoming one of the most valuable tourist destinations in the world. In recent years, numerous attacks carried out by Islamic extremists and terrorists against capitals of major European countries and tourist destinations in the Middle East have had a significant impact on the willingness of travelers worldwide to choose certain destinations.
The World Economic Forum points out that Spain is the second safest and most reliable country among the top 10 nations in the travel and tourism competitiveness index, with a safety score of 6.2%.
According to estimates from Spanish tourism research institutions, in 2015, terrorist attacks occurring in Tunisia, Egypt, and Turkey prompted approximately one million foreign tourists to choose Spain as an alternative travel destination. The World Economic Forum has also indicated that conflicts and turmoil in the Middle East have indirectly benefited the Spanish tourism industry. Furthermore, the Spanish government’s increased financial investment in the tourism sector is another important reason for the country maintaining its competitiveness.
The booming tourism industry in Spain has also driven the appreciation of the local real estate market, which is why Spain has attracted investment immigrants from all over the world in recent years. Currently, by investing in Spain through Worldway, investors simply need to purchase property worth over €500,000 to quickly obtain residence permits for their entire family, allowing them to enjoy Spain's pleasant climate and beautiful tourist scenery, while simultaneously securing a share of the property value appreciation brought about by the flourishing tourism sector—a double harvest for both immigration and investment.
