Trump's administration's new immigration ban was once again suspended by two U.S. federal judges on the 15th.
On March 6, Trump issued a new travel order, preventing citizens from six Muslim-majority countries from obtaining visas to enter the United States for a period of 90 days, while also suspending the U.S. refugee program for 120 days and reducing the U.S. refugee intake from 110,000 to 50,000.
The new immigration order was originally scheduled to take effect this Thursday (the 16th), and on Wednesday, several federal courts across the country began holding hearings, with at least seven states attempting to block the new immigration order before it took effect. Later on Wednesday, a federal judge in Hawaii ruled to suspend the new immigration order nationwide. Subsequently, a federal judge in Maryland also issued an order to prevent the core provisions of the new immigration order from taking effect.
The U.S. Department of Justice issued a statement that day, stating that it would continue to uphold the legality of the new travel ban and indicated that the federal district judges' rulings that day were insufficient. The statement said, "The actions taken by the President are within the scope of the law and are aimed at protecting national security. The Department of Justice will continue to defend the legality of this executive order in court."
Trump will not back down easily, and how the situation will develop is being closely watched! The WorldWay Immigration Group will continue to monitor the situation.
