Buying property to immigrate to Portugal and settling in Portugal is a fashionable and enthusiastic way for many investors to relocate overseas! Portugal boasts excellent natural conditions, and its annual flower festival is renowned worldwide. On April 17, the 11-day Madeira Flower Festival in Portugal concluded in Funchal, the capital of the Madeira Autonomous Region. During the festival, the entire city of Funchal resembled a large garden, filled with the fragrance of flowers, and it was breathtaking.
Madeira is known as the "Island of Flowers" due to its subtropical climate, which is suitable for the growth of various flowers. The variety of flowers attracts a large number of tourists every year. This year's flower festival theme is "Flowers · Celebration," symbolizing the celebration of another spring's arrival with vibrant flowers.
On the morning of the 9th, children dressed in festive attire carried flowers through the ancient streets of the city center, creating a "Wall of Hope" for world peace in the Funchal Municipal Square with their flowers. The afternoon of the 10th featured the highlight of the festival—the flower parade. With lively and cheerful music, and costumes adorned with flowers, 10 giant flower-decorated floats participated in the parade, which lasted nearly 3 hours.
The grand flower parade, featuring thousands of performers, attracted tens of thousands of visitors. An elderly couple from Norway, in their seventies, excitedly told reporters that they particularly love Madeira and have visited more than 10 times, almost always attending the flower parade. This time, they will stay in Madeira for 3 weeks to fully enjoy the beauty of Madeira in spring.
The Madeira Flower Festival originated from the Rose Festival that began in 1954 and was officially renamed in 1979, held annually. This year, the festival has been extended from one week to 11 days. In addition to the flower parade, the organizing committee has arranged a variety of cultural activities, including traditional folk songs and dances, flower exhibitions, and children's flower parades.
Tourism has always been one of the pillar industries of the Madeira Autonomous Region's economy. This year, the Funchal city government invested a total of 320,000 euros (approximately 2.34 million RMB) for the flower festival. During the flower festival, hotel occupancy rates in Madeira reached as high as 96%.
