Portuguese egg tarts are world-renowned. When immigrating to Portugal for an inspection visit, tasting local cuisine—especially egg tarts—is an absolute must.! The 9th Lisbon Seafood Festival, hosted by the Portuguese Tourism Board, concluded on April 17th. As in previous years, the selection of the Best Egg Tart of the Year was a highlight of the festival.
Portuguese egg tarts are a famous delicacy and a calling card of Portugal. This year, the honor of the best egg tart was awarded to a pastry shop in the Benfica district of Lisbon called “Século Fim” (End of the Century).
The organizers stated that as an iconic Portuguese delicacy, the quality of egg tarts should be preserved and approach perfection, which is the original intent behind hosting the competition.
During the 11-day festival, 9 renowned chefs from various restaurants, including Michelin-starred establishments, showcased their exquisite culinary skills and provided live demonstrations of seafood cooking techniques for food enthusiasts.
Portugal is a nation of seafood lovers, with the highest per capita fish consumption in the European Union. Horse mackerel is a staple on the daily dining tables of the Portuguese people, and the organizers specifically invited chefs to demonstrate different ways to prepare horse mackerel at this year's festival.
For a 15-euro (approximately 110 RMB) admission ticket, visitors were not only able to learn cooking tips from famous chefs but also enjoy a exquisite seafood snack worth 5 euros (approximately 37 RMB) and a glass of wine to accompany the meal.
Ten renowned restaurants from Lisbon also offered hundreds of seafood dishes, including fresh oysters, pan-seared grouper, and olive oil-baked cod, all of which left diners thoroughly impressed.
