Recent research by scholars in Chicago, United States, suggests that square dancing can lead to better health. This study included 65 sedentary elderly individuals, who either danced Latin twice a week or participated in health education. After 4 months, researchers found that the dancing elderly walked faster and were more active in physical exercise compared to before. The facts speak for themselves; square dancing knows no borders. The research by American scholars will undoubtedly provide greater motivation for Chinese women who love square dancing and wish to immigrate to the United States.
The lack of physical activity has become the fourth leading risk factor for death globally, making it significant to encourage people to move. Therefore, the popular square dancing is indeed meaningful. A study in the United Kingdom also confirmed that compared to those who rarely or never dance, regular dancers have a 46% lower risk of cardiovascular mortality.
Compared to other forms of exercise, dancing is more suitable for heart patients, as it not only improves blood supply to the heart muscle, enhances lipid metabolism, and increases heart function, but is also safe and convenient. For everyone, dancing not only serves as physical exercise but also has social attributes, alleviating stress and enriching life.
However, when participating in square dancing, it is important to consider age and physical condition; some high-difficulty dances should not be blindly imitated. Weather conditions should also be taken into account; it is not advisable to dance outdoors in cold or hot weather, or when pollution levels are high. The duration of dancing should not be too long; 30-60 minutes is sufficient. Additionally, if there are uncontrolled diseases (such as hypertension, unstable angina, etc.), or if one is overly full or has consumed alcohol, dancing is not recommended.
