Stay informed on the latest news regarding U.S. immigration and life in the United States. Some U.S. media outlets reported that the U.S. government requires Chinese citizens traveling to the U.S. to register their information in the EVUS system every two years. Reports claimed this was equivalent to rendering the 10-year U.S.-China visa 'void.' What is the truth behind this?
Regarding the new U.S. visa regulations, a spokesperson for the Department of Consular Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that in November 2014, China and the U.S. reached an agreement to issue 10-year multiple-entry visas to each other's business and tourism personnel. The information recently released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security requires Chinese citizens holding 10-year U.S. visas to update their personal information periodically via the internet. This measure by the U.S. side does not require a new visa application, nor does it affect the validity of the visa; visa holders do not need to visit U.S. embassies or consulates abroad. The reciprocal long-term visa arrangement reached between China and the U.S. has not been voided and remains valid.
