Ayia Napa Sea Caves (Ayia Napa Sea Caves) --- the most magnificent natural wonder of Cyprus
To the east of Ayia Napa, there is a rocky beach shaped by the sea, with rocks resembling arches, caves, various animals, and unidentifiable shapes. This is the result of millions of years of sea waves eroding the coastal rocks, truly a masterpiece of nature. Visitors can climb down the rocks to explore these mysterious caves or jump directly into the sea from the rocks, with no safety hazards, as the water is clear and transparent. The sunrise over the sea here is particularly magnificent, and visitors can pose in various challenging shapes to capture beautiful moments, their silhouettes reflected in the deep blue waters, creating stunning visuals. Its unique beauty lies not only in the naturally formed enchanting scenery but also in the diverse experiences it offers. People come here to swim, dive, fish, boat, cycle, and more, while the rocky beach is surrounded by abundant shrub vegetation: daisies, wild onions, silver lilies, and others. Among the more than 300 plant species growing in this area, 11 are endemic, along with quails, wild pigeons, owls, and many migratory birds, as well as wild rabbits, bats, butterflies, and more.
Ayia Napa Monastery (Agia Napa Monastery)
It is located in the center of Agia Napa, surrounded by high walls. This charming medieval monastery was once described as the "Lady of the Forest." The fig tree in front of the south gate of the monastery is said to be 600 years old. According to legend, in the 6th century, a hunter discovered an image of the Virgin Mary in a cave, dating back to between the 8th and 9th centuries. Some Christians had hidden the Virgin Mary in this carefully chosen cave, and nearby villagers arranged worship ceremonies in this cave to express their reverence for the Virgin Mary, a practice that continued until the 15th century. When this place became a prestigious and important holy site, such customs were preserved, attracting a young noble girl from Venice who later settled in Famagusta. Her father disapproved of her marrying her beloved, so she left home for Ayia Napa. Soon, she acquired a church and several temples, and thus, the Ayia Napa Monastery gradually began to be constructed. Inside the monastery, there is a cave, believed to have been used for worship by early people. During the later period of Venetian rule (1489-1570), this monastery became very famous and accumulated considerable wealth. Subsequently, it underwent renovations and reconstructions over the ages, forming its current scale. Now, part of the monastery has become a conference venue and café.
