As the situation surrounding Brexit intensifies, the exchange rate of the British Pound against the Chinese Yuan continues to decline. According to the latest data released by the Foreign Exchange Trading Center, on March 1, 2016, 1 British Pound was equivalent to 9.1159 Yuan. Compared to the same period last year, when 1 British Pound was equivalent to 9.5751 Yuan, it has fallen by 0.3956 Yuan. This means that the costs for studying abroad and investing in immigration to the UK will decrease, and both investment immigrants and international students should seize this opportunity. In addition, prestigious British universities are offering substantial scholarships to attract outstanding international students.
University of Leeds: Institute for Transport Studies
50% Master's Tuition Fee Waiver
This year, the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds is offering a scholarship that provides a 50% tuition fee waiver for all international students enrolled in full-time Master's degree programs. Applicants must have received an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional) for a Master's program starting in September 2016 at the institute and be classified as international students for fee purposes. All applications will be evaluated on a competitive basis. Scholarships cannot be deferred; if a student is unable to enroll as scheduled in September 2016, the scholarship will be considered void. This scholarship provides a 50% tuition fee waiver for the 2016-2017 academic year (equivalent to an international student tuition fee of 8,500 British Pounds, or approximately 77,500 Yuan). Applicants must submit a scholarship application form by June 15, 2016, including a 500-word statement on how the Master's program will assist them in transforming the transport industry in their home country or region and specifically addressing a major issue.
Currently, students applying for the following majors at the institute are eligible to apply for the scholarship, including MSc in Transport Modelling, MSc in Sustainability in Transport, MSc in Transport Economics, MSc in Transport Planning, MSc in Transport Planning and the Environment, and MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering. To apply for the above programs at the University of Leeds, an IELTS score of 6 is required, along with an undergraduate degree in a transport-related major, an undergraduate GPA of 2.8 (on a 4.0 scale), and the course application must be submitted before the end of March this year.
University of Leicester:
Low-threshold scholarship application
This year, the University of Leicester is offering a variety of scholarships, including the College of Science and Engineering Master's Scholarship, where students can receive a 10% tuition fee waiver upon enrollment in 2016 without the need for a separate application. The Chancellor's Undergraduate Scholarship allows students enrolling in 2016 with AAB grades to enjoy a 10% tuition fee waiver each academic year for three consecutive years, also without the need for an application. The College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities Master's Scholarship offers tuition fee waivers ranging from 10% to 15% depending on the specific major for students enrolling in 2016, with no application required. For example, students in management majors can receive a 15% tuition fee waiver, while students in economics, media, and museum studies can receive a 10% tuition fee waiver.
These scholarships at the University of Leicester do not require separate applications; as long as students enroll in 2016, they are eligible, which represents a very low threshold for students. Students should seize the opportunity to apply for their desired majors. It is recommended that students have an IELTS score of 6, an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), and submit their course applications within March of this year.
British Academy of Film and Television Arts:
Open to students from mainland China for the first time
On January 20 this year, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) international scholarship program officially opened for applications. It is reported that this scholarship is open to students from mainland China for the first time this year. Through this program, Chinese citizens can apply for up to 20,000 British Pounds in tuition support and up to 10,000 British Pounds in living expenses to study at industry-recognized British institutions; meanwhile, British citizens can apply for up to 10,000 British Pounds in tuition support and up to 10,000 British Pounds in living expenses to study relevant courses in mainland China or Hong Kong. At the same time, scholarship recipients will receive guidance from industry professionals and be invited to attend various BAFTA events.
The program does not have specific requirements for the institutions students apply to. Students can apply for this scholarship based on their own circumstances, such as for the Master's in Composing for Film and Television at the Royal College of Music or the Master's in Film Directing at the National Film and Television School. It is recommended that before applying, students should ideally have an IELTS score of 6, an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), and provide a portfolio of their work in the film, television, or gaming fields, such as micro-films they have produced, which can add value to the application. In addition, students should ideally submit their course applications before April of this year.
