Vanuatu's volcanic remains are not only of great scientific value for studying the formation of volcanic rocks, but also a great place for tourism. Geologically, Vanuatu is located at the junction of two tectonic plates and has a total of nine volcanoes, seven of which are on land and two are underwater. Immigrate to Vanuatu and get close to the "fireworks set off by God." The eruption of a volcano is like the rising sun bursting forth, and its dust and thick smoke resemble a mushroom cloud, giving people a strong sense of shock. The solidified volcanic lava forms various shapes, and through the uncanny workmanship of nature, it has created many unique geological wonders.

Mount Yasur

Mount Yasur is located on Tanna Island and is an active volcano. It is known to the world as the "most accessible volcano" because people can approach it and watch the volcano spewing smoke and fire beneath their feet at close range. Looking back at the history of Mount Yasur, in 1774, when Captain Cook sailed to Tanna Island, he was surprised to discover the volcanic wonder: Mount Yasur continued to glow like a lighthouse in the dark night. Every few tens of minutes, the volcano would erupt on a small scale, and about every half hour there would be a larger volcanic eruption, just like fireworks and firecrackers. Captain Cook could not help but marvel at the magnificence of nature, exclaiming repeatedly that these were "fireworks set off by God."

While volcanic activity provides the people of Vanuatu with fertile soil, air, minerals, building materials, energy, and other resources, it also often brings disaster and suffering to them. Due to a lack of understanding of volcanoes, for a long time, the indigenous people were terrified of volcanic eruptions, thinking that the gods were angry, and they lived in this state of fear and awe. With the understanding of volcanic eruptions, the local indigenous people gradually summarized the precursors of eruptions to minimize losses. At the same time, they believe that by coming to the vicinity of the volcano to sing and dance, and standing on the hot rocks to praise the heavens, they will receive the protection of the gods, and the tribe will be safe and sound in the coming year.

There is a post box near the crater of Mount Yasur. Tourists can brave the constant spewing of magma, the rumbling sounds, and the strong earthquakes to climb the volcano, come to the side of the active crater, and send mail. You can even buy special stamps and postcards from the volcanic post office to send to family and friends.

Ambrym Island Volcano

Ambrym Island Volcano is an active volcano located in the center of the Vanuatu archipelago. It frequently erupts intermittently with high frequency and short cycles, producing a large amount of volcanic ash, showing the characteristics of pulsating volcanic magma activity. During the intervals between volcanic eruptions, Ambrym Island is basically in a quiet, normal shallow marine sedimentary environment. Looking back at the history of Ambrym Island Volcano, in 79 AD, a Roman naturalist, Pliny the Elder, was killed by the massive smoke and dust spewed by a sudden volcanic eruption while conducting scientific research on Mount Vesuvius. To commemorate this scientific hero, people named this form of volcanic eruption a "Plinian" eruption.

Ambrym Island Volcano is of this eruption mode.  When the volcano erupts, accompanied by earth-shattering roars, stones fly and roll, and the extremely hot magma, like ferocious fire dragons, gushes out from the ground, swallowing everything around it. In an instant, an area of dozens of miles is shrouded in thick smoke and mist. Since 1774, Ambrym Island Volcano has erupted 48 times.

Volcanic Oasis

Who exactly scattered the seeds on this land that was once ravaged by volcanoes? Was it to commemorate the vicissitudes of life, or to forget the nightmare of fleeing in all directions? The volcano is surrounded by an oasis, with dense jungles gilding the cliffs with emerald lace, graceful coconut trees competing to surround the fine white sandy beaches, and a few thatched cottages vaguely visible among the boulders, allowing you to witness the charm of life with your own eyes and feel the integration of nature and humanity.

Volcanic Waterfall

There are waterfalls near the volcano, and the clear water flows down slowly, as if whispering to you, or as if telling its mysterious legends. At the top of the waterfall, you will have time to swim in the pond and enjoy the charming scenery of Ambrym Island.

Lopevi Island Volcano

Looking back at the history of Lopevi Island Volcano, among the diverse cultures of Vanuatu, Kuwai Island Volcano has all kinds of magical legends such as the anger of gods and terrible nightmares, and it seems that everything is related to the eruption of the volcano.

Around 1420 AD, due to a sudden volcanic eruption, part of the terrain changed. The local indigenous people watched everything that happened from a distance. They felt as if the end of the world was coming, and everyone scattered in fear. But after the volcanic eruption for a period of time, everything became quiet. It is not known who started to settle around the volcano again, and the population gradually increased. The indigenous people seemed to be fighting against fate with their own actions.
