Recently, the Hurun Research Institute released the "2015 China Investment Immigration White Paper." This 34-page professional report is based on a special survey of 284 Chinese high-net-worth individuals with an average wealth of 30 million yuan, who have immigrated, are applying for immigration, or are considering immigration. It explores the reasons for their immigration, their preferred immigration destinations, and related issues such as overseas investment, especially overseas real estate. The survey shows that the three main drivers for immigration are education quality, environmental pollution, and food safety. Currently, China has entered the "Global Citizen 1.0 Era," and the United States remains the top choice for investment in real estate and investment immigration.
The white paper released the 2015 China Immigration Index. The index comprehensively considers eight aspects including education, immigration policies, cost of living, optimal personal taxation, and healthcare, and selects the top ten countries, providing a comprehensive and objective quantitative data for "Where will China's wealthy population immigrate to?"
The United States scored a high of 9.1, taking the top spot. The United States is one of the most developed countries in education globally and is the preferred study destination for Chinese students. In the 2014/15 academic year alone, the number of Chinese students studying in the United States exceeded 300,000. It is also the preferred country for global investors in real estate. According to the latest report released by Jones Lang LaSalle in 2015, currently, 50% of real estate investments worldwide are concentrated in 30 global cities, of which 16 are in the United States (including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, etc.). The United States is also very friendly towards immigration. For example, in the fiscal year 2014, the United States issued over 10,000 investment immigration visas, of which more than 9,000 were issued to China, an increase of 46% compared to the fiscal year 2013. China is currently the largest source country for investment immigration to the United States, with the proportion of mainland Chinese citizens obtaining EB-5 visas (number of visas issued/number of applicants) increasing from 26.7% in 2008 to 85.4%, and remaining above 85% for the past three years.
Notably, this year the white paper introduced the concept of "Global Citizen" for the first time. Hurun believes that "Global Citizens" possess some significant characteristics, namely visa freedom, wealth freedom, overseas education, and a network of friends and business contacts across multiple countries. Currently, China's "Global Citizen 1.0 Era" has arrived. As the number of wealthy individuals immigrating overseas continues to increase, more and more people will choose an international lifestyle with multiple locations and countries, leading to a change in the lifestyle of China's wealthy population.
