The United States is a country with a diverse culture, originally formed by immigrants from around the world. These immigrants brought their own cultures together, creating a melting pot that has shaped the open, free, democratic, and lawful environment of the United States. An inclusive social environment will inevitably attract more immigrants, which is why the American Dream has remained enduringly popular.
After immigrating to the United States, one can easily discover that social life here is incredibly vibrant. For instance, the annual Thanksgiving is a traditional family holiday. However, for the homeless or those living alone, the warmth of the holiday can be elusive. To ensure that more people can enjoy a warm and joyful holiday, a restaurant owner in Detroit, Michigan, provides free meals to the "lonely" every Thanksgiving.
According to foreign media reports, Thanksgiving is an important traditional holiday in the United States and is also a family-oriented holiday. However, for many homeless or solitary individuals, the warmth of the holiday is out of reach. To ensure that more people can enjoy a warm and joyful holiday, a restaurant owner in Detroit, Michigan, provides free meals to the "lonely" every Thanksgiving. He has been committed to this charitable act for 10 years.
Reportedly, 69-year-old restaurant owner George Dimopoulos has maintained the "free Thanksgiving dinner" initiative for 10 years. His charitable act initially went unnoticed until last week when someone shared the Thanksgiving dinner notice posted by the restaurant on social media, leading to increased awareness.
According to the notice posted by the restaurant: If you are home alone, you are welcome to join us for a meal, free all day.
On Thanksgiving Day, solitary or homeless individuals can come to the restaurant from 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Last year, over 80 people dined at the restaurant on Thanksgiving Day. Dimopoulos stated, "Helping others brings me great joy."
Dimopoulos is a Greek immigrant who left home at the age of 12 due to poverty and went to Athens. He once slept on the streets and relied on the kindness of strangers to survive. He expressed that providing free meals now is simply a way to continue the love and generosity he received.
