Hispanic Immigration Education: According to the U.S. Department of Education website, the Department recently announced an investment of 51 million dollars as new awards for 96 Hispanic-serving institutions to expand educational opportunities for Hispanic and low-income students.
The Hispanic-serving institution program provides funding to make it easier for Hispanic students to access college, supports institutions in improving academic products and program quality, and establishes stable systems. Through teacher development, curriculum development, student counseling and mentoring, and other services, schools utilize these funds to expand educational opportunities for students.
This funding is part of the Obama administration's commitment to expanding educational equity and opportunities for Hispanic students, and is a result of the 25th anniversary of Hispanic Heritage Month and the implementation of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. The White House Initiative has made a series of commitments and provided a new report and a set of educational data outlining the government's efforts to improve the lives of 55 million Hispanic Americans.
